UN reports: nearly 5,800 civilians killed in Donbas conflict

The United Nations states that since April, 2014 at least 5793 people were killed in the Donbas.

The United Nations reports that since April 2014, when the conflict broke out in the Donbas, till February 20, 2015 nearly 5,800 people were killed, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the UN report.

"Since the beginning of the conflict in mid-April 2014 and until 19 February 2015, at least 5,793 people (including 63 children) were killed and 14,595 (including 169 children) were wounded in the east of Ukraine," the statement reads.

In addition, more than a million Ukrainians have left their homes and became internally displaced people because of the conflict in the Donbas, the report states.

Previously, the United Nations announced that the official data on the number of dead and wounded in the conflict in the Donbas were inaccurate.

It also became known that the UN increased the size of humanitarian aid for the people of Donbas up to $ 316 million in 2015. The reason is catastrophic situation in Debaltseve, where the locals need urgent assistance.
