German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the peaceful settlement in Ukraine will take time. "I have no illusions," she said at a joint press conference with French President Francois Hollande after talks in Paris on Friday, February 20.
The head of the German government noted that the imposition of new sanctions against Russia was just an alternative in case of violation of the Minsk agreements, but not a goal in itself. EU could "raise the issue of sanctions" if necessary, she said.
For his part, Hollande warned that any country violating the Minsk agreements in Ukraine would face sanctions. He said that more than ever he was convinced of the need to implement the Minsk Agreement in full, and France and Germany would fully contribute this.
