Petro Poroshenko discusses with Angela Merkel how to deal with Minsk agreements

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the ways to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, and noted that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission should get full access for monitoring and verification.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Joinfo.ua reports referring to the press service of the head of state.

The parties stated that the ceasefire was not observed by the militants who continued conducting artillery and missile shelling of the Ukrainian positions.

Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel discussed the ways to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, and noted that the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission should get full access for monitoring and verification.

Also, they emphasized that the agreements reached in the Normandy format regarding the release of the Ukrainian prisoners of war captured during their withdrawal from Debaltseve must be performed. Nadiya Savchenko and all Ukrainian hostages must be released within the Minsk agreements.

Angela Merkel pledged her support and agreed that the European Union should take further measures to influence the parties of the Minsk arrangements in order to implement them.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation in the Normandy format with the heads of Russia, Germany, and France. During the conversation Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called on "not to pretend that what happened in Debaltseve meets the Minsk agreements." He also called on to set up guarantees for the cases of further attempts to violate these agreements.
