The Main Prosecutor's Office of Georgia demanded the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine to extradite wanted ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili and former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili.

"Due to the fact that in Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili (ex-president of Georgia) and Zurab Adeishvili (former Minister of Justice of Georgia) are charged and wanted, and also due to the fact that, according to information received, these persons are on the territory of Ukraine, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine with a petition to locate, detain and extradite the persons mentioned," the statement said.

The ministry noted that the extradition of the wanted persons between Georgia and Ukraine is carried out under the European Convention "On extradition" of 1957, the Minsk Convention of 1993 "On legal assistance in civil, family and criminal cases" and bilateral agreement "On legal assistance in civil and criminal matters and legal relations" signed between the two countries in 1995.

"According to these treaties the parties take responsibility in accordance with the provisions of treaties, consider, and hand over wanted persons," the Prosecutor's Office said.

"Despite the obligations existing between the two countries in the field of extradition, the Ukrainian side did not cooperate with the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia on the issue of extradition of Saakashvili and Adeishvili and refuses to extradite the wanted persons," the Office stressed.
