U.S. Senate approves resolution demanding Russia to release Savchenko

The U.S. Senate approved the resolution to Russia demanding the immediate release of Nadiya Savchenko.

U.S. Senate approves resolution demanding Russia to release Savchenko

The resolution was adopted unanimously, informs the website of the U.S. Congress.

The resolution calls upon release of the Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko captured by Russian troops in eastern Ukraine and illegally detained in the Russian prison since July 2014.

The resolution condemns the Government of the Russian Federation for unlawful imprisonment of Nadiya Savchenko and calls on the government of this country to immediately release her.

The document calls on the United States, its European allies and international community to support the efforts to free Nadiya Savchenko and other illegally detained Ukrainian citizens.

In the resolution the Senate also expresses solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced an agreement to release the Ukrainian pilot and MPs Nadiya Savchenko from prison.

Thus, Savchenko's lawyers stated that it may be released from prison after completing the case in procedural way.
