The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine intends to ask the U.S. Congress to expedite the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine and grant it special ally status.

February 11, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider the question of addressing to the U.S. Congress to expedite the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine and grant it special ally status, Joinfo.ua reports.

The relevant question is put on the provisional agenda to be approved at the conciliation board of heads of factions and groups of the Verkhovna Rada.

This issue can be submitted during the first reading of the bill on amendments to the law "On the organization of defense planning" (new edition).On Thursday, there will likely be considered the draft resolution on changes in the administrative-territorial structure of the Luhansk region.

Earlier it was reported that in 2015, the Ukrainian army will receive more than 500 basic weapon systems and military equipment, said Vladyslav Seleznyov, the press secretary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at a briefing, Joinfo.ua reports.

"In 2015, according to the state defense order, more than 500 basic weapon systems and military equipment, more than 300,000 units of weapon and more than 3,500 thousands of other weapon systems and military equipment will be provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Seleznyov informed.

Also, it was reported that the State Concern Ukroboronprom intended to increase the volume of production of Ukrainian tanks in 24 times – from 5 to 120 units annually.

It is planned to develop the production of Oplot basic combat vehicles up to 40 units in 2015, and in 2016 the concern will produce 100-120 such units annually.
