The Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande arrived today in Kiev to meet with President Petro Poroshenko, and tomorrow, they will fly to Moscow for a meeting with Putin. Merkel and Hollande will talk to the presidents of both countries – Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin.
According to Dr. Ras, Merkel and Hollande will offer Moscow suspension or lifting of the sanctions in exchange for giving up supporting separatists in the eastern Ukraine. Dr. Maciej Ras believes it will mean a limitation or cessation of Russian military intervention.
He adds that in Kyiv, the leaders of Germany and France are likely to persuade the authorities to show restraint and adopt internal reforms.
According to Dr. Ras, the Ukrainian side will agree to it, because there is no force to overcome the separatists, and reforms are necessary in order to save the country from bankruptcy. He adds that Merkel and Hollande will not be able to work out long-term Russian-Ukrainian mutual understanding.
It should be recalled that Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande arrived in Kyiv with a "recipe" for full territorial integrity of Ukraine.
