EU to extend sanctions and enlarge blacklist

At a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the EU it was decided to extend the sanctions against Russia imposed in March 2014 due to the annexation of Crimea until September and to expand the blacklist of its defendants.

Joinfo.ua informs that Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, announced the decision of EU foreign ministers.

"We have decided to extend the restrictive measures targeting persons and entities that were decided in March last year…until September of this year," she said.

Mogherini clarified that the decision on further names of individuals and entities to be added to the blacklist will be made within a week, after the next meeting of EU foreign ministers on 9 February.

Also Mogherini announced a decision to begin the work on the "further measures that can be applied to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements."

The EU diplomacy chief said that the ministers had "a very productive meeting" and noted their "responsible and constructive approach."
