EU to consider new sanctions against Russia in 2 weeks

EU countries and the heads of the European Union states have come to the conclusion that the new sanctions against Russia should be toughened since it is the Russian Federation who is responsible for the attack on Mariupol.

According to the statement of the Heads of State and Government of the European Union, this issue was discussed with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

In response to the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, the European leaders recommend the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries to prepare various scenarios, in particular the proposals for tougher sanctions against Russia.

January 29, twenty-eight heads of diplomacy will meet in Brussels to discuss the consequences of the shelling in Mariupol, which killed at least 30 civilians.

In a joint statement the EU leaders note that Russia has provided separatists in eastern Ukraine with more and more support, that is why it is responsible for the attack on Mariupol and escalation of the conflict.

European leaders will discuss the sanctions during the next summit to be held February 12. The decision was made by the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
