Petro Poroshenko assures Europe he is ready for Trilateral Contact Group meeting

During a meeting with the Prime Minister of Poland President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko informed Eva Kopacz about the current situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In an interview with the Prime Minister of Poland President Petro Poroshenko stressed that "despite escalation of pressure and activation of terrorists, Ukraine is ready to sign the ceasefire agreement given the adherence to the Minsk agreements," the press service of the Presidential Administration reports.

Commenting on the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the status of the Minsk agreements as of January 18, 2015, the President said, "Ukraine is striving for peace. We are ready to immediately summon the Trilateral Contact Group in order to ensure the elaboration and signature of the schedule of the Minsk agreements" implementation."

The President insists that all the agreements based on the plan for peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas include all the key elements needed for immediate de-escalation and stabilization of the situation and the beginning of the Donbas' recovery, namely: cease-fire, restoration of the Ukrainian control over the Ukrainian-Russian state border, complete and immediate withdrawal of foreign troops and mercenaries, pullback to the line of demarcation of September 19, 2014, withdrawal of heavy weapons, release of hostages and illegally detained persons, improvement of the humanitarian situation in the region and holding of local elections under the Ukrainian legislation.
