Germany hopes Russia lifts embargo on EU products by end of week

On Friday, Christian Schmidt, Minister of Agriculture of Germany will discuss the resumption of agricultural products delivery to Moscow with his Russian counterpart Nikolay Fyodorov. The Kremlin refused to buy products from the EU in response to the imposition of sanctions against Russia. It is referred to about 1% of German export. Its total volume is about 67 billion euros per year.

However, the German government hopes that this ban will be lifted at least partially. Christian Schmidt admits that this very issue will be central during the negotiations with the Russian delegation at the Green Week exhibition in Berlin.

The estimations of Germany can be really justified, since Russia is suffering a significant shortage of products because of its counter measures. The Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation does not hide the fact that its own agriculture can not meet the needs of the entire country.

At the same time Germany does not even say that the European sanctions against Russia will be eased. Berlin hopes that Moscow will lift the embargo unilaterally.
