According to business daily Napi Gazdasag, after the start of the conflict in Ukraine in 2014, Russian tourists started travelling to Hungary less.
In his interview, Istvan Kovacs, the head of the Hungarian Association of Hotels and Restaurants said that in addition to the crisis, the ruble fall has caused the negative impact on the flow of tourists.
In late October Hungary was visited by 10 percent fewer Russians than a year earlier.
"It was a serious blow, because the number of Russian tourists in previous years exceeded the number of Austrian and British tourists," Kovacs said.
In 2013, Russians accounted for 5-6 percent of the 1,263 billion forints (EUR 4bn) spent by foreign tourists in Hungary
"Russian tourists spent 768,000 guest nights in Hungary, almost exclusively in hotels," Kovacs said.
