New sanctions against Russia make its oligarchs even richer

New sanctions against Russia, the ruble fall, and the decline in oil prices had absolutely no impact on the welfare of the main oligarchs of Russia. Moreover, they have become even richer.

New sanctions against Russia imposed by the West actually had no effect on the main Russian oligarchs. And some of them, for example, Roman Abramovich, have become even richer, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to MarketWatch.

Thus, against the backdrop of sanctions and the loss of capital by others, two out of five Russian oligarchs have become even richer. According to MarketWatch, Roman Abramovich had made another $ 100 million, having increased his capital to $ 12.7 billion. However, it should be noted that most of his income is not associated with Russian companies.

The second Russian billionaire, who ended up in the black is Alexei Mordashov, Director General of Severstal. For the last year his income had amounted to $ 1.6 billion, increasing his capital to $ 11.7 billion.

But, MarketWatch notes that Alisher Usmanov, who was considered the richest man in Russia of the last year, lost nearly $ 4, 5 billion.

And now the richest Russian is Viktor Vekselberg. His losses due to the sanctions have amounted to $ 200 million.

Another Russian businessman Mikhail Fridman had lost $ 2.7 billion during the last year.

According to the publication, Leonid Michelson had lost the most – new sanctions against Russia had reduced his capital by 41%.

It is to be recalled that the new sanctions against Russia will be either lifted or extended. The European Union will make the decision on this issue in March.
