Ukraine becomes official U.S. ally

The author of The Ukraine Freedom Support Act is the Senator Robert Menendez, joinfo.ua reports.

The Senate unanimously supported the document.

The bill defines Ukraine as a military ally outside NATO. Also it reduces Ukraine's dependence on the Russian gas supplies and provides assistance to the Ukrainian army and refugees.

In addition, the bill provides the imposition of new sanctions against Russia.

"To become law, the House of Representatives has to pass its version of the document. This should be done by these very members of the House, whose work, according to the schedule, ends tomorrow. Legislators have previously stated that the work of the Congress could be extended to the weekend," journalist Myroslava Gongadze explained.

Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. was considering the options for economic and military coercion of Russia to make the Kremlin fulfill the conditions of Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
