Burkina Faso President refuses to resign

Blaise Compaoré, the president of Burkina Faso, the state in West Africa, refuses to resign at the request of the protests that broke out in the country. Instead, he said he would head a transitional government after Parliament dissolution.

October 30, a group of protesters stormed the parliament building, trying to prevent considering the issue, which would allow Compaoré run for a fifth term.

A part of the legislature building was burned down. According to the opposition, about 30 people suffered because of the clashes. So far, this information can not be verified from independent sources.

Due to the protests in Burkina Faso there was introduced a state of emergency. Its effect lasted for several hours, and then the regime was abolished.

The government announced the decision to withdraw the bill on the new presidential term for Compaoré. Later, the army command announced the dissolution of the government and parliament.

Compaoré came to power in Burkina Faso in 1987 after a military coup d'état.
