The South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
In addition, he received a three-year suspended sentence for weapon-related charges.
The prosecutors asked for a 10-year sentence but the attorney of the athlete insisted on house arrest and community services.
Last month, Pistorius was found guilty of manslaughter of his girlfriend.
27-year-old Pistorius acknowledged that on February 14, 2013 he shot at 29-year Steenkamp through the closed door of the toilet. He believed an intruder was in the bathroom who posed a risk to him and he fired shots through the toilet door.
The prosecution argued that the murder was preceded by a scandal among the young people.
