The U.S. Department of Defense considers Russia as the greatest threat to the national security of the country, that is why the United States intends to increase its military presence in Europe, U.S. Air Force Secretary Deborah James, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Reuters.

James said that the White House should respond to Russia’s aggression by increasing its presence in Europe.

“This is no time to in any way signal a lack of resolve in the face of these Russian actions,” James said.

Meanwhile, yesterday it was announced that over the next two years, the U.S. Army planned to reduce 40,000 military officers and soldiers. By the end of 2017, the staff of the U.S. troops will be reduced to about 450,000 servicemen.

Also, the United States intends to cut 17,000 civil servants employed in the military departments.

The number of the U.S. forces will have to be cut by another 30,000 people in the event of the next state budget sequester in October.
