Keep it up: in Berlin Merkel praises Yatsenyuk for reforms and promises financial assistance

This is a brief summary made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the results of yesterday's talks with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk in Berlin.

Merkel emphasized that the Ukrainian authorities had managed to make significant steps towards the necessary reforms in a short period of time.

"I must honestly say that in a very short period of time the Verkhovna Rada had made significant steps that will be strengthened by international support," said Merkel at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Merkel summed up that, since the reform program proposed by the IMF was executed, it was possible to send financial aid to Ukraine. However, according to the Chancellor, Ukraine needs to improve business climate.

Today, representatives of the two governments signed a memorandum on granting Ukraine 500 million euros, 200 of which will be used to support the budget, and 300 will go to the development of infrastructure projects.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that he expected "to see German business and German technology in the implementation of these projects," and announced his intention to attract foreign capital in Ukraine.
