It was stated on Monday by the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during the joint press conference with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and National Defence of Poland in Warsaw.
"The main NATO task is to protect all NATO allies, one of which is Turkey… On this occasion, there are placed Patriot missiles to strengthen the defense capabilities of the country. There are also opportunities for bringing ground forces (of the Alliance – Ed.), if there be events threatening the safety of Turkey," said Stoltenberg.
He stressed that NATO is "shocked" by the actions of the "Islamic state" terrorist organization.
According to him, the Alliance is also ready to support Iraq for strengthening the defense capabilities of this state in combating the Islamic militants.
