In Bordeaux, France, activists from the Ukrainian diaspora have managed to cancel the show of Russian propaganda film “Crimea. The return to the Motherland”, which tells about the annexation of the peninsula. The film was scheduled for show in Bordeaux on Friday, December 11.

To persuade the city authorities to cancel the show, activists of the initiative Collectif Euromaidan Bordeaux, have filed a petition, said Vasil Slipak, the activist, to Krym.Realii, Joinfo.ua reports.

“The activists responded quickly to the poster of the show, and started distributing the petition, and also contacted the embassy. So, they wrote an urgent letter to the Mayor of Bordeaux Alain Juppe. The initiative quickly spread among the various French communities of Ukrainians in social networks. Later, the petition came into Ukrainian segment, and by the end of the day the number of signatories has increased significantly, “- said Vasil Slipak.

“Crimea. The return to the Motherland” is a two-hour propaganda documentary, in which Russian President Vladimir Putin and other persons, involved in the annexation of the peninsula in 2014, reveal their version of how Crimea was taken under the control of Moscow.

The Ukrainian Embassy in France has welcomed the cancellation of the show and thanked the community for its role in the decision of the city authorities of Bordeaux.

“As we have been assured by the representative of the City Council of Bordeaux, the scheduled for December 11 show of the film “Crimea. The return to the Motherland” was cancelled by the decision of the mayor Allen Juppe. We welcome this responsible decision.
