Yesterday, as fans all over the world celebrated the “Back to the Future Day”, Nike sent to Michael J. Fox the first pair of ‘self-tying’ sneakers, which looks exactly like the shoes Michael wore in Back to the Future II. Nike designer Tinker Hatfield wrote Fox a letter saying, “As the first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air Mag, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair.”
“This is real. This is today. Coming spring 2016,” – Michael wrote on Twitter.

Back in 2011, Nike made an auction, where 1,500 pairs of famous shoes (but without self-tying powers) were sold and gave the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. According to MJFF, the auction raised more than $9.4 million to contribute to research for the cure for Parkinson’s and to draw people’s attention to the importance of such research.
The Foundation joined Nike in announcing the debut of the self-lacing Nike Mag shoes for another charity auction in the spring of 2016.
