Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects that G7 summit in Sicily would express the common position with Ukraine, Joinfo.com reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
“It is important that this meeting is held before G7 summit. We hope that the Sicilian meeting will display the unity of the civilized world and Ukraine,” he told reporters before the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Gransee on Saturday.
The head of state thanked partner countries for support of Ukraine.
“I want to say that in May we are waiting for the completion of the ratification of the Association Agreement by the Netherlands. Thus, we would move forward on the way of returning Ukraine to Europe,” he said.
Russia’s hybrid military forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 55 times in the past 24 hours with four Ukrainian soldiers reported as wounded in action, according to the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters, according to UNIAN.
“There were 55 enemy armed provocations in the past day. Increasingly, the enemy uses artillery armament, which is strictly prohibited by Minsk agreements,” the report said.
The Mariupol sector: 26 enemy attacks were recorded. In particular, the militants used 120mm mortars to shell the Ukrainian soldiers near the villages of Shyrokyne and Hnutove, while the ATO fortified positions near Berdianske and Shyrokyne came under enemy fire from 122mm artillery systems. In addition, the militants fired grenade launchers and small arms at ATO positions outside the villages of Vodiane, Pavlopil, Novohryhorivka, and a number of other settlements. The occupiers also fired 82mm mortars and small arms not far from the towns of Mar’inka and Krasnohorivka. Fortunately, no destructions or civilian casualties have been reported.
In the Donetsk sector, the militants attacked the Ukrainian soldiers 16 times. The southern and eastern outskirts of the town of Avdiyivka remained to be a hot spot. In the evening, the enemy opened fire from 120mm and 82mm mortars as well as small arms and grenade launchers on the Ukrainian positions in this area.
“Northeast, the enemy fired 82mm mortars and small arms on the ATO fortified position near the village of Verkhniotoretske. The defenders of the village of Luhanske at Svitlodarska Duha bulge came under enemy fire from infantry fighting vehicles and heavy machine guns,” the ATO HQ said.
It the Luhansk sector, the enemy attacked the Ukrainian positions 13 times, using heavy artillery and multiple artillery rocket systems. In particular, late in the evening, the militants shelled the ATO positions near the village of Troyitske from BM-21 Grad MLRS multiple rocket launchers and 152mm and 122mm artillery systems.
“The Ukrainian positions near the village of Novo-Oleksandrivka came under fire from 122mm artillery systems, while the defenders of the villages of Novozvanivka and the town of Popasna were shelled from 120mm and 82mm mortars. The Russian-backed mercenaries also fired small arms and grenade launchers near the settlements of Valuyske, Krymske, and Stanytsia Luhanska.
Ukraine’s state-run Ukroboronprom Concern has prepared another batch of T-80 tanks for the highly mobile landing troops of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.
“Another batch of T-80 tanks will be sent for the highly mobile landing troops of Ukraine to the front line! We keep working to strengthen our defense potential,” the president wrote on Facebook.
The posted video shows a tank with a 125 mm caliber cannon, a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour, and a combat weight of 44.5 tonnes.
Ukraine’s state-run Ukroboronprom Concern conducts operation and management of state-run economic entities involved in the development, manufacture, sale, repair, modernization and disposal of weapons, military and special equipment, and ammunition. The companies also participate in military and technical cooperation. The concern comprises over a hundred enterprises of Ukraine’s military industrial complex.
