The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 114 times in the past 24 hours, Joinfo.com reports with reference to UNIAN.
The ATO HQ said four Ukrainian soldiers were killed, 17 wounded in action.
In the Donetsk sector, militants fired from Grads multiple rocket launchers on the Ukrainian positions near the town of Avdiyivka and the villages of Pisky, Kam’ianka and Opytne. Here, the militants repeatedly used tanks, mortars of various calibers, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms during the day. The villages of Hranitne and Luhanske were attacked with the use of 122mm artillery systems. Additionally, the enemy fired mortars of different calibers on the town of Mar’inka, and the villages of Luhanske, Novhorodske, Troyitske, Verkhniotoretske, Vodiane and Pisky.
In the Mariupol sector, the occupiers shelled Grads on the Ukrainian positions near the villages of Shyrokyne, Novohryhorivka and Starohnatіvka. They also fired 122mm artillery systems and 120mm and 82mm mortars on the towns of Krasnohorivka and Mar’inka, and the villages of Vodiane, Bohdanivka, Hranitne, Shyrokyne, Opytne and Chermalyk. The militants fired rocket-propelled grenades, anti-aircraft guns and small arms on the villages of Berezove, Pavlopil, Hnutove and Vodiane. Furthermore, Chermalyk was attacked with the use of anti-tank systems. Enemy snipers were also active near Mar’inka and Pavlopil.
In the Luhansk sector, Russian-backed militants opened fire from 152mm artillery systems on the village of Novozvanivka, mortars on the villages of Krymske and Syze, as well as rocket-propelled grenades and small arms on the villages of Novozvanivka and Novo-Oleksandrivka.
British photographer Christopher Nunn was admitted with severe eye injury at a Mechnikov hospital in Dnipro city at 04:00 Friday after being wounded in a massive militant shelling on Avdiyivka in Donbas, UNIAN reports.
“The photographer lost an eye and had another one badly damaged; doctors are trying to save his sight,” 112 Ukraine TV channel reported citing Serhiy Ryzhenko, the hospital’s chief physician.
Head of the Donetsk Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky confirmed the report: “A British photographer was wounded. The shell hit the radiator in a residential building; a gas explosion followed. Shells landed near the football stadium where locals received humanitarian aid. The militants deliberately shelled civilians, instead of firing on troops.”
It has been 5 days since the militants stepped up heavily the hostilities around Avdiyivka. A state of emergency was declared in the town January 31 amid fears of a humanitarian disaster while the shelling from heavy artillery is ongoing.
The National Bank of Ukraine has raised its inflation forecast for this year from 8% to 9.1% due to increase in the minimum wage up to UAH 3,200 starting from January 1, 2017.
