Today the Ukrainian authorities have closed the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint at the contact line in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to UNIAN.
According to Heorhiy Tuka, head of Luhansk Regional Military and Civil Administration, all the checkpoints in the Luhansk region at the contact line in the area of the Anti Terrorist Operation may be closed too, due to the intense militant shelling.
“Constant provocative actions of terrorists, the lasting shelling, lie during negotiations in Minsk [at the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas], neglecting of their own promises did the trick. [Our] patience snapped! On April 8, 2016 the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint ceased to work for an indefinite period,” – said Tuka in a statement.
“Militants have not stopped shelling on the vicinity of the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint for a week. In order to protect lives and health of civilians who cross the contact line at this checkpoint, the command headquarters of ATO in Donetsk and Lugansk regions decided to close the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint temporarily from April 8,”- said in a statement.
The entry/exit checkpoint “Stanytsia Luhanska” will be opened as soon as the gunmen finish provocative attacks and the situation stabilize.
It should be recalled that one Ukrainian soldier of the 59th brigade was killed and three other wounded as a result of militant shelling at Novozvanivka and Stanytsia Luhanska.
