During Sunday February 28, militants 71times fired on positions of Ukrainian troops. Of these, 36 times in Donetsk sector, 22 times in Mariupol sector and 13 – in Luhansk sector of the area of the Anti Terrorist Operation, said the spokesman of the ATO headquarters Major Serhiy Zhmurko, Joinfo.ua reports.
The Russia-backed mercenaries have stepped up their activities at dusk and continued shelling from heavy weapons, banned by the Minsk agreements – 82mm and 120mm mortars. In Donetsk sector terrorists fired three times at about 20:00 on the strongholds of Ukrainian troops near the town of Avdiyivka and the village of Zaitseve. They released 17 shells.
Militants fired grenade launchers and heavy machine guns on Ukrainian army’s strong points in the area of Pisky, Opytne, Novhorodske, Troitske and Mayorsk. Infantry combat vehicles (BMP) and snipers fired on the ATO positions near Troitske.
In Mariupol sector, the pro-Russian militants fired 82mm mortars on a strong points of Ukrainian soldiers near Talakivka; and grenade launchers and heavy machine guns – near Krasnohorivka and Mar’inka.
In Luhansk sector militants stepped up their activity and fired from automated grenade launchers (AGS) on positions of Ukrainian troops near the town of Orehove.
The Russian terrorists also carried out point-blank fire on positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 82mm and 120mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns in the area of Mayorsk, Krasnohorivka, Avdiyivka, Luhanske, Bohuslavske and Novozvanivka.
From midnight to 6 a.m. militants ceased shelling on positions of the Ukrainian army.
