The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has fined Russian Gazprom for UAH 85 bln ($3.5 bln) for abuse of its monopoly position on the market of gas transit through pipelines on the territory of Ukraine, as told the head of the Antimonopoly Committee Yuriy Terentyev on his Facebook page on Friday, January 22, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Korrespondent.
“We have just decided on the abuse of its monopoly position on the market of gas dominant position in the market for transit through the pipelines of Ukraine by Gazprom company as a monopoly buyer,” – he wrote.
According to Terentyev, the fine amounts to UAH 85 bln (about $ 3.5 billion).
Previously, AMCU stated that Gazprom continually violated the terms of the contract with Naftogaz of Ukraine in 2009-2015.
It should be recalled that on Tuesday, January 19, Ukraine’s Naftogaz received a $2.5 bln bill from Gazprom for gas, which Naftogaz refused to buy in the third quarter of 2015, on the condition of “take or pay” under the contract as of 2009, which Ukraine argues in Stockholm arbitration court.
