Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade informed that Russia fully halted the transit of goods from Ukraine through its territory from January 4, 2016.
“This prohibition of Russia is nontransparent, unjustified and discriminatory. Therefore, the Russians have violated their commitments, which in particular had been assumed within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Free Trade Area Treaty as of October 18, 2011,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ministry emphasized according to the decision of the Russian President and the Government, from 1 January 2016 on, the transit of Ukrainian goods to Kazakhstan will be carried out only by one road and one railroad crossing point on the Russian-Belarusian border near Smolensk, and only when the seals are connected to GLONASS satellite system, and drivers have accounts coupons.
“Currently, the Operational headquarters monitors the situation with imports to Russia and transit via its territory. However, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the interested companies are developing alternative transit routes” – said the Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
It should be recalled that Russia unilaterally suspended the free trade area agreement with Ukraine from January 1, 2016 and imposed an embargo on a number of Ukrainian food. In response, Ukraine imposed embargo on a list of imports from the Russian Federation.
