More than a hundred Russian cargo ships arrived in Syria for the past few weeks. The shipping from the Black Sea ports has reached the annual peak after the start of Russian Armed Forces active operations in Syria, reports Joinfo.ua with reference to Reuters.
According to shipping records and information of maritime surveillance and international trade resources, ships has come directly from Russia, from the Black Sea ports in Romania, and also from Lebanon and Egypt.
The cargo consists of supplies to support the offensive, as well as grain and sugar to feed those involved in the operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria. Reuters has not been able to obtain independent confirmation of the cargo.
Member of the Government of the Russian Federation said that the Kremlin did not issue decrees on the supply of goods to Syria.
Part of the shipments was made in the framework of Russia’s commitments to the government of Syria, others by private suppliers expecting to benefit from the escalating confrontation, sources say.
“Vessels are backed-up, logistics of supply is chaotic. We think that everything is caused by build-up of Russia’s military presence “- said the informant in the Middle East trading company.
The price of freight to Syria on a container ship in two weeks has increased by 20%, now it’s more than $80 per ton, the source said.
It should be recalled that yesterday Syrian President Bashar Assad came to Moscow for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin has assured his counterpart that Russia is ready to contribute not only to the defeat of terrorism in Syria, but also in the political process in the country.
