Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that elections in Donbas may be held on condition, that the foreign troops leave the territory
“Ukrainian government is ready to hold elections in Donbas, but it needs foreign troops to be withdrawn from all the territory of Ukraine,”- the President said in an interview to BBC Newsnight, Joinfo.ua reports.
“The only thing we need is removing of foreign troops from the area,” – he said.
According to Poroshenko, Ukrainian parliament is ready to take into account the specifics of the election in Donbas.
“We have 1.5 million internally displaced persons, who had to leave the territory of the Russian aggression, and we, as a democratic society, must give them the opportunity to vote,” – said Poroshenko.
It should be recalled that on October 6 the representatives of DPR and LPR, Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deinego announced the postponement of illegal elections scheduled on October 18 and November 1 to the next year.
