Valeriu Strelet, Prime Minister of Republic of Moldova at the debate during the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, said that his country insists on the withdrawal of the Russian army from the territory of Transnistria, Joinfo.ua reports. After that an international peacekeeping mission should be established in the region.
“We once again declare our strong position on the insistence to withdrawal Russian troops and arms from the territory of the Republic of Moldova in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Moldova in accordance with international obligations”, – Valeriu Strelet said.
Transnistria is an internationally unrecognized entity proclaimed in Tiraspol on September 2, 1990, with population of about half a million people have the status of “autonomous territorial unit with a special legal status.” Currently known as the Moldavian Transnistrian Republic, this breakaway entity consists of a narrow strip of land (180 km by 32 km) nestled between the east bank of the Nistru River and the border of Moldova with Ukraine.
It should be recalled that three weeks ago Moldova has deported representatives of unrecognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia, banning them from entering for 10 years and has broken off all relations with the Russian military attache because of his presence at the military parade in the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic.
