As the press service of the AP reports, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe in New York. President Poroshenko thanked Japan for the financial assistance in stabilization of the economic situation, implementation of reforms and important infrastructure projects, Joinfo.ua reports.
The two sides also discussed the situation in Donbas. Japanese Prime Minister expressed the support to the efforts of the Ukrainian President for a peaceful settlement and noted in this context that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements. “Japan will not recognize the results of pseudo-elections “DPR” and “LPR”, if they take place,” – Abe said.
Petro Poroshenko and Abe also discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the G7 countries in the context of Japan’s chairmanship of this organization from January 1, 2016. The parties also agreed on the visit of Ukrainian President to Japan next year.
Petro Poroshenko informed the Prime Minister on the completion of internal procedures in Ukraine necessary for the intergovernmental agreement on the provision of USD 900 million loan for the project of modernization of Bortnychi aeration station to enter into force.
The Ukrainian party expressed interest in attracting Japanese capital in the economy of Ukraine in the context of the key intergovernmental Agreement on promotion and mutual protection of investments signed earlier this year. The parties also discussed the issue of strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and praised the development of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in overcoming consequences of accident at the nuclear power plant “Fukushima-1”.
