According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Ukrainian authorities have taken the decision to close the airspace for Russian planes flying to Syria, Joinfo.ua reports.
“I have instructed Ukraerorukh to strengthen control regarding any movement of Russian planes flying to Syria together with Evrokontrol this morning. Now the airspace over Ukraine is closed, and the airspace over neutral waters is econtrolled very carefully,” said Yatsenyuk.
Earlier, Bulgaria and Greece have closed their airspace for the Russian aircraft with humanitarian aid. Minister of Defense of Bulgaria Nikolay Nenchev said that if Russian military transport planes flying to Syria without the permission of Bulgaria appear in the airspace of the country, there would be scrambled Bulgarian aircraft interceptors, which would make the Russian planes land at the airport specified.
However, ources say that now in Bulgaria, there are only two operating aircraft that can be scrambled.
Nevertheless, Iran has given the Russian planes its permission to fly over its territory on their way to Syria.
As it is known, the Russian Armed Forces in Syria, Lavrov said that the soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces still are present in this country, but their presence is associated with the supply of arms to the Syrian army. “There ar eRussian troops in Syria, they have been there for many years. Their presence is associated with the supply of weapons to the Syrian army, which bears the burden of confrontation against terrorism in the face of the ISIS and other extremist groups, and Russian troops are deployed there to help the Syrians to learn this military equipment and prepare it for the use in the fight against terrorism,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov also said that the Russian aircraft sent to Syria deliver “both military equipment in accordance with the existing contracts, and humanitarian assistance.”
