Georgia decides when it deprives Mikheil Saakashvili of citizenship

Georgia is waiting for the official confirmation from Kyiv that the ex-President of Georgia is a citizen of Ukraine in order to deprive him of his Georgian citizenship.

Tbilisi is waiting for the official confirmation from Kyiv that the former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has the Ukrainian citizenship. It was announced today by the Minister of Justice of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani, Joinfo.ua informs.

“We are waiting for official confirmation from Kyiv about the ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili receiving the Ukrainian citizenship. In the case of this confirmation, we will start the procedure of deprivation him of his Georgian citizenship,” she said.

The Georgian legislation does not provide for a Georgian citizen to have dual citizenship.

It should be recalled that the Interpol claimed that the declaration of Saakashvili as wanted was illegal because the organization has traced the signs of political persecution in the charges against the former Georgian president.
