According to Andrzej Duda, Poland and other neighbors of Ukraine should be brought to the negotiations on resolution of the conflict in the Donbas, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to the Polish agency PAP.
“I believe that in the long term, if we are looking for a long-term peaceful solution, the negotiations should take place in a different format … I hope that these talks will be held with the participation of Poland and other neighbors of Ukraine. Long peace can only be provided by a broad peaceful conference,” he said.
The Polish President also said that the best solution to the Ukrainian conflict would be restoration of the old borders since they were a guarantee of the European order. According to him, frozen conflict can lead to fatal consequences. “Poland should support Ukraine in different ways. I’m not talking about financial support but the help in the construction of public institutions,” Duda said.
At the same time, he admitted that Poland would not have wanted to have bad relations with any of its neighbors, including Russia.
Earlier, the former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said about the need for Barack Obama participating in the negotiations in the Normandy format. McFaul expressed confidence that for Ukraine, the results of the negotiations would be more acceptable if they were participated by the United States.
