The Russian authorities intend to eliminate the products from the sanctions list not only on the border but throughout the country, including in the case of detecting them in stores, Joinfo.ua informs with reference to Kommersant.
Vasily Itskov, the Chief of the Dispute Resolution Practice at IFC Horizon Capital notes that the decree adopted by the government transfers the responsibility not only to the Federal Customs Service, but also to Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor. Therefore, authorized representatives of these organizations may destroy sanctions products after their delivery to retail chains.
According to the source, the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being, Rospotrebnadzor, will start monitoring the warehouse retailers. Nikolai Vlasov, the Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, said that the agency planned to inspect goods at the border and at the temporary storage warehouses, and send its experts to public catering places and retailers.
Retail stores believe they don’t have prohibited goods. Thus, Yekaterina Kumanina, the Director of External Relations at Diksi states that the likelihood of identifying sanctions products in the store chain is zero.
