Angela Merkel has arrived in Brussels for an extraordinary summit of the European Union. Prior to the talks, she noted that there were still no grounds for the resumption of negotiations on aid to Greece from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), Joinfo.ua reports referring to the Russian media.
“After the expiry of the second program and after a more than clear ‘no’ in the Greek referendum there is still no basis for negotiations in the ESM (European Stability Mechanism) program framework,” she said.
However, according to Merkel, the decision on Greece will be taken in the next few days, not weeks.
“During today’s meeting we are going to discuss how it will develop, we don’t have the final picture. But I must say that this is not about week but a few days. Today, we will hear what the Greek prime minister wants to tell us,” Merkel said.
She also stressed that without solidarity there is no way to help. “Without solidarity there is no possibility to help, without solidarity and without reforms it’s not possible to go where we want to go,” the Chancellor added.
it should be recalled that a political expert and MP Oleksandr Doniy said that the attitude of Europeans to the possible entry of Ukraine in the European Union would change dramatically because of the situation in Greece today.
