Ukrainian parliament prohibits portable zoos and wildlife exhibitions

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine concerning protection of biodiversity", which prohibits the use of portable zoos and wildlife exhibitions. This decision was supported by 229 deputies.

According to the law, protection and reproduction of objects of the Red Book of Ukraine are provided by the bodies of state power, local government, individuals and legal entities, who are the subjects of the use of flora and fauna, the owners of the objects of the Red Book of Ukraine, the owners and users of the territories, where any rare species of animals and flora listed in the Red Book of Ukraine reside, Joinfo.ua reports.

The law prohibits the use of bears and wolves in hunting test stations, as well as for examinations, competitions and hounding hunting dogs. Also there is prohibited both creation and operation of portable menageries, zoos and exhibitions of wild animals, as well as the operation of dolphinariums that do not have natural sea water.
