The Government of Moldova urges Russia to withdraw its armed "peacekeepers" from the territory of the Transnistrian region and replace them with a civil mission with international mandate. It was stated by President Nicolae Timofti, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to Ukrainform.
"The Moldovan authorities also insist on the replacement of Russian "peacekeeping forces" in the security zone on the Dniester River with a civil mission with international mandate. Moscow, however, objects the proposal, providing political, military, and financial support to the Tiraspol separatist regime," said Timofti.
In his opinion, Russia creates a hotbed of tension in Moldova in order to disrupt the process of European integration of the country. Everything the Russian Federation does is aimed at disrupting the process of settlement of the conflict, said the President.
He noted that the rapprochement with NATO is the only way to improve security for Moldova. And there is no alternative to European integration.
Timofti also expressed the opinion that Ukraine needed to avoid the scenario of "Transnistriazation" of the Donbas.
"Frozen conflicts have not brought prosperity to the citizens living in these territories. For example, Transnistria is currently experiencing serious economic and social crisis – the result of illegal actions and isolation it has pulled itself into," said the President.
Earlier it was reported that Moldova has banned Russian propagandists Kiselyov and Kondrashov to entry the country, as well as the film about the annexation of Crimea.
