New sanctions against Crimea ruined New Year holidays for Russians – expert says
Chris Weafer, an investment consultant believes that many Russians, who wanted to go on holiday to Crimea, will hardly do it, because the prices on the peninsula rose sharply, and it is inconvenient and dangerous to take a lot of cash, CBS News reports.
New sanctions against Russia affecting economy of the country and resulting is oil prices decline, are supplemented by a further blow, but from the other side.
Now that there are ten-day New Year holidays coming, the Russians will not enjoy a festive mood. MasterCard and Visa, the largest representatives of services in the market of credit cards announced their termination of work in Crimea. And now, more or less well-off Russians who were planning to spend the New Year’s holidays on the peninsula have to ditch the idea. Anyway, such a statement of affairs is unfavorable for the inhabitants of Crimea too.
According to Chris Weafer, now Putin have to think how to pay salaries to the people on the peninsula and ensure solvency.
It is to be recalled that Ukrainian Railways has completely closed the movement of passenger and freight trains to the peninsula. And after that the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine suspended bus service to Crimea.
