Ukraine and Poland have reached a new stage of energy cooperation. Without reaching adequate agreements with Moscow on gas supplies Kyiv reorients its natural gas transmission pipelines to Europe.
For this there will be built the Drozdovich-Bilche-Volitsa gas pipeline 10 km long with a capacity of 8.0 billion cubic meters per year from Poland to Ukraine and 7.0 billion cubic meters per year from Ukraine to Poland.
The new pipeline will allow performing reversible gas supplies from Europe – they allow Ukraine to survive this winter – and gas supply through and from Ukraine to Europe. The Ukrainian side can give its storages for the needs of the EU.
The estimated project cost is 245 million dollars. But Ukrtransgaz believes these investments are necessary, because Ukraine is buying its actually energy independence from Moscow for it, and Ukraine will be able to obtain from Poland natural gas purchased on the German market from such companies as Statoil, BP, Shell, RWE or other traders.
