Circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated. Nine peacekeepers were killed during the attack on the convoy of the United Nations in Mali.
It was reported by Reuters on October 3, with reference to the UN representative Olivier Salgado.
According to Salgado, all the dead were from Niger. The incident occurred near the towns of Menaka and Ansongo.
According to preliminary data, the attack was conducted by a group of unknown armed men riding on motorcycles. Other circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated.
UN peacekeeping force contingent of 12,600 people was placed in Mali after the successful completion of the French military operation, which began in January 2013. The French troops were brought into the country at the request of the Malian authorities to fight with Tuareg people. They seized the northern part of Mali and announced the creation of the independent Islamic state there after the military coup in spring 2012.
