Dunford believes that Russia is a top threat to U.S. national security, reports Joinfo.ua with reference to Reuters.
He stressed that Russia’s behavior in the international arena should cause “nothing short of alarming.” “My assessment today is that Russia presents the greatest threat to our national security,” the candidate said.
In addition, he noted that Russia was a nuclear power “able to violate the sovereignty of the allies.”
Dunford also said that provision of Ukraine with lethal weapons by the United States would be “reasonable.” “Without weapons to counter tank and artillery fire, Ukrainian troops will not be able to fend off “Russian aggression,” he said.
This opinion was supported by Senator John McCain.
Earlier, Lieutenant-General Stepan Poltorak, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, said NATO would reconsider the issue of granting Ukraine lethal weapon if Russia continued to violate the Minsk Agreement.
