Russian occupation authorities launched new wave of repressions against Crimean Tatars
Russian special police forces storm Crimean Tatars’ homes and conduct searches. People are reportedly accused of terrorism

Early morning on Thursday February 11, Russian special police forces stormed homes in the towns of Bakhchisaray district of Crimea and in the towns of Alushta and Yalta and carried mass searches in eleven households of Crimean Tatar  families. 12 people were detained, Joinfo.ua reports with reference to 15minut.org.

Mejlis called the actions of the occupation authorities a new wave of repression. The chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov named it an attempt to discredit the Muslims in Crimea under the slogan of fighting against “Islamic threat.”

On Friday February 12, the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, representative of the Crimean group for human rights wrote on his Facebook page that the police continued searches in the homes of the Crimean Tatars in Dzhankoy district.

“Received information about searches in the village of Perepiolkino, Dzhankoysky district”, – wrote the lawyer.

“Relatives say that raid was tough, nobody explained anything. People were put down to the floor, handcuffed and so on “, – said Emil Kurbedinov to KrymRealiyi.

People that were driving by one of the stormed houses,  saw the police minivan on the road. By the car there were 2 people with bags on their heads and with hands cuffed behind their backs.

Kurbedinov believes that this is another attempt of the Russian occupation authorities on the peninsula to present the Crimean Tatars as “radicals and terrorists”.

“[All the detained are] imputed terrorism. Some people were even [accused] of state treason, as the relatives said”, – said Kurbedinov.

The first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Nariman Dzhelial was also summoned for an interrogation to the prosecutor’s office in Simferopol. He said that they [authorities] asked about the activities of the Mejlis on the peninsula and the future plans of the organization. Dzhelial said to Krym.Realiyi that he was outraged by the mass searches in Crimea and allegations about the Tatars’ involvement into activity of extremist groups.

“Before Russia came to Crimea, there was no acts of terror and no terrorists,” – said Dzhelial.
